Introduction
The department of Ophthalmology at Post Graduate Institute of Child Health, Noida has Dr Vikrant Sharma (Additional Professor and HOD) and Dr Divya Jain (Associate Professor) as faculty.
The department caters to the diverse Paediatric ophthalmic conditions namely refractive error correction, amblyopia, cataract, glaucoma, squint, neuro-ophthalmic disorders, lid disorders, anterior segment diseases like conjunctivitis, red eye, allergic ocular conditions, foreign body in the eye, congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction, retinal lasers to name a few. In premature babies screening for retinopathy (ROP) and its treatment is also offered.
Scope of Work & Services Provided
The department offers a comprehensive range of services, including:
- Diagnosis and treatment of Pediatric cataract and anterior segment disorders
- Refraction and amblyopia therapy with myopia management services
- Glaucoma management and oculoplasty services
- Screening and management of Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP)
- Fundus examination and medical management of Retinal disorders along with retinal lasers
- Low vision services and YAG capsulotomy
Additionally, the department is aligned with various government schemes such as Ayushman Bharat and Rashtriya Bal Suraksha Karyakaram (RBSK), ensuring quality eye care is accessible to all.
Important Milestones
- Introduction of Myopia Management services with pharmacological and environmental modulation for prevention of progression of Myopia.
- Established as a referral center for ROP screening and treatment, in addition to a full spectrum of ophthalmic diagnostic and management services.
- Introduction of low vision services, enhancing the scope of rehabilitative ophthalmology.
- Conducting school-based eye screening camps on regular basis, benefiting numerous children with undiagnosed visual impairments.
- Recognition at state, national, and international levels through impactful research, indexed publications, and faculty participation as invited speakers at conferences.
- Acquisition of handheld fundal retinal camera especially useful for newborn retinal screening and documentation
- Celebrating department's Foundation Day, yearly coupled with successful CME on Pediatric Ophthalmology.
- Organized public awareness campaigns, educational programs, and newspaper articles, commemorating global observances like World Glaucoma Week and World Sight Day.
- The departmental faculty has been actively participating in administrative responsibilities, including Ayushman Bharat, DigiShakti, Nasha Mukti Abhiyan, , and various other administrative tasks
